Producer information

Starting a new large winery in Villány in the early 2000s? Crazy idea. Especially if most of the starting team is not even from there. Winemakers Ildikó Markó and László Latorczai came from Budapest and Lake Balaton, while the owner, Krisztián Sauska - despite his childhood in Somerek and his roots in Villány - was still considered an "American" in local folklore. Yet it was precisely this lack of a past that gave the freedom from which the unusual Sauska name, reinforced by numerous cuvées, could emerge. With the new vintage of the Cuvée 7 and the international success of the Cuvée 5, the Sauska winery also became known in Tokaj.

They were among the first to develop their soon-to-be-popular dry white wine selection, which, in addition to the native Furmint, Yellow Muscat and Hárslevelű, also includes wines that have become audience favorites, such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The base material for their methode traditionelle sparkling wines, which will soon be opened in their Budafoci cellar, is exclusively their own Tokaj grapes, and the basis of their quality-oriented philosophy is terroir and loyalty to it.
