The poor Serbian boy from Szentendre who grew up without a father, little Szavits Mladen, was an apprentice confectioner in the famous Auguszt E. József shop on Krisztina Boulevard. One fine day, sometime in the early thirties, a Danish confectioner turned up at the company and showed them that with sufficient manual dexterity, attention and lots of practice, pretty little roses could be made from sugary, almondy marzipan. Many hours, days, months, years and decades have passed since then, and many hundreds of thousands of marzipan roses have been made and sold.

Through hard work and family cooperation, this rose gave rise to the company Szamos in the mid-nineties, which employs several hundred people, serves 90% of the Hungarian market, exports to seven countries and is developing promisingly in Pilisvörösvár. In 1987, Szamos also opened one of the most beautiful shops in the centre of Pest. Today, the company produces not only marzipan, roses and figurines, but also a wide variety of sweets, cakes and, last but not least, fine desserts. Most of the recipes are a credit to the ingenuity of Mátyás Szamos. As many pieces, so many shapes, so many flavours, so many specialities, so many surprises.
