The Budapest Textile Company started to produce the original Soviet dessert (in the Soviet Union, an ancestor of the dessert filled with a mixture of cottage cheese, butter and sugar, flavored with vanilla and covered with chocolate, already existed under the name "glazirovannij szirok") in 1968, after the idea was brought to Hungary during a study trip between the COMECON countries. It was first produced in the Szabolcstej dairy plant in Mátészalka, then production also started in the Zalkatej dairy plant in Nagybánhegyes. After the regime change, the manufacturing companies were privatized, and as a result, the production of Túró Rudi became the property of Friesland-Campina.
