Freesia bouquet with 5 stems
This sensitive and fragrant flower was naturalised in Europe in the mid-18th century and by the end of the 19th century, thanks to breeders, numerous hybrid forms had already developed from the basic species. Interestingly, it owes its name not to a botanist, but to a German physicist who was a dedicated collector of South African plants.

Did you know? Freesia belongs to the iris family. Its homeland is South Africa and East Africa, but it is also very popular in our everyday lives in Hungary, as it is often kept as an ornamental plant because of its beautiful appearance. It was naturalised in Europe at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. There are many different varieties, with funnel-shaped flowers and spreading flowers, which are usually yellow, white or pink and are arranged in a special cluster. The plant grows from a small bulb and has long, narrow leaves.
