Cafe Frei was founded by two friends: the novelist Tamás Frei, a former TV globetrotter who has visited more than 150 countries in recent decades and is passionate about coffee and the world associated with it; and Tamás Langár, an economist and food industry entrepreneur, who helps run the network's business side with more than 30 years of experience.

The first CAFE FREI coffee shop opened in Hungary in April 2007, and their coffee shop franchise network has been growing ever since. They have now become the country's largest coffee shop chain. Thanks to their unique franchise system, 2013 brought them an international breakthrough when they opened their first coffee shops in Central Europe. Since then, they have been operating coffee shops from France to Dubai. Including in such exotic countries as Saudi Arabia.
