Cafe Frei was founded by two friends: the novelist Tamás Frei, a former TV globetrotter, who has visited more than 150 countries in recent decades and is a passionate lover of coffee and the world associated with it; and Tamás Langár, an economist and food industry entrepreneur, who helps run the network from a business perspective with more than 30 years of experience.

The first CAFE FREI coffee house opened in Hungary in April 2007, and their coffee house franchise network has been expanding ever since. Today, they have grown into the country's largest coffee house chain. Thanks to their unique franchise system, 2013 brought them an international breakthrough when they opened their first Central European coffee shops. Since then, they have been operating coffee shops from France to Dubai. Including in such exotic countries as Saudi Arabia.
