Although our country is not the largest pepper producer in the world, within vegetable cultivation, it holds the largest proportion, most types are grown here, and its use shows the greatest variety in gastronomy.

Interesting facts
Native to South and Central America, this vegetable has many varieties. Paprika, or Capsicum annuum in Latin, belongs to the nightshade family, and is a distant relative of tomatoes and potatoes. It has been known in Hungary since the 16th century, and local growers made the long, pointed type famous worldwide as a spice plant. Its cultivation in Hungary began in Szeged in the 18th century, followed by Szentes and Kalocsa.
Usage
It can be consumed raw, in salads, with cold dishes, or baked, cooked, pickled, also as an ingredient in many different types of food.
