This way, whenever a surefire idea is needed, there's already a place to turn to - and the list can be continuously expanded as the child grows.

While everyone wants to contribute to the little one's first celebration with a gift that will be remembered for a lifetime, saying it came from Aunt Manci or Grandpa Feri, the most useful gift is a diaper. It's not lasting, true, but whether the family uses disposable or washable versions, it's expensive and essential.

Pro tip: Always ask the parents about the exact type of the preferred brand, the size, and the type of supplementary products - wet wipes, diaper cream, etc. Without this information, the gift can easily become a nightmare for the parents, as they have to get rid of the received surprise without the giver finding out.

Additionally, it can be very practical to acquire accessories for the baby's next three to six months that the parents would buy anyway. Coordinate with the mom about the desired baby spoons, puree containers, baby cutlery, cups, bottles, dinner sets, and bibs. These are must-have items, especially if you're looking for real quality, and make excellent gifts for the holidays.

 

 

Ideas for older children

As a practicing mother, I find it important to keep children away from the online space for as long as possible, but I also know that this is often almost impossible. Digital content consumption and peer community inevitably lead to children wanting various popular products even if they don't actually need them.

In such cases, we have to decide whether to fulfill the children's wishes against our own parenting principles or to choose the gifts we prefer against the children's wishes. It can be useful to follow the well-known gifting method and surprise children with five gifts: one they desire, one they need, a piece of clothing they can wear, a book they can read, and something they really need but don't yet know about. (The latter is the most difficult yet most exciting task.)
