Producer information

It all started in 1858 when Martin Belot, a farmer from Purnode, first brewed beer in the outbuildings of his farm. At first, the beer was only produced during the winter, when the staff were not busy with field work during the off-season. In addition, it was a great advantage that a water layer was discovered in Purnode that was exceptional in terms of its quality and quantity.

The brewery offered customers a wide range of products from table beers to strong beers, varying in density, colour, bitterness and flavour. In 1949, the brewery became a public limited company. With the takeover of the Central Brewery of Marbaix -La-Tour in 1967, Brasserie du Bocq expanded its range with two new beers: the SAISON REGAL, which is now the GAULOISE AMBREE, and whose idea gave birth in 2013 to the SAISON 1858 and the CHRISTMAS REGAL, since renamed GAULOISE CHRISTMAS. It was at this point that the Belot family decided to focus their production exclusively on special beers with high fermentation and bottle-fermented refermentation.

Belgian beers have indeed acquired an excellent reputation worldwide. Brasserie du Bocq exports mainly to France, the Netherlands, Italy, Great Britain, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, Australia, Japan, China, Sweden, the United States, Brazil, Russia, Ukraine, etc. In seven years, production has doubled to reach 114,683.31 hectoliters in 2018. With a current turnover of more than 14.8 million euros, Brasserie du Bocq is one of the largest independent breweries in Wallonia.
