The Sopron wine region has a thousand-year-old tradition of viticulture that continues to this day. The Taschner grandparents' wine shop led to a long journey to a wine house with a wonderful panorama of the Schneeberg.
In 1995, István Kurt Taschner, an economist, started working with his father. At that time, he was responsible for the bottling and received guests in the family's old, two-century-old cellar. Between 1998 and 2000, he completed the viticulture and oenology engineering course at the University of Horticulture, and since then he has managed the 29-hectare vineyard. He works together with his father and the winery team in the vineyard and in the cellar, and also actively participates in the organization of Sopron community wine marketing and wine tourism.
As their vineyards grew, they needed a larger cellar, so in 2004 they built the current Taschner Wine House, which offers an extraordinary panorama of the city, the surrounding mountains, and in good weather even the Austrian Schneeberg.
The building, located on the hillside known as Pihenőkereszt, which rises above the city, was designed in accordance with the technological processes of winemaking, so that the processing, aging and storage cellar, the warehouse and the bottling plant are located on the basement level, while the wine shop and the tasting room are located on the ground floor. Thus, viticultural and winemaking work takes place in one place, and the entire portfolio of the winery, including wines and sparkling wines, can be presented to guests.
