Maci Classic instant coffee substitute extract

A mixture of chicory-grain coffee extract, well homogenized with powdered sugar. It offers a delicious alternative to coffee.

Suggested use

When making a latte, add one heaped teaspoon of extract to a cup of milk, and when making black coffee, add two teaspoons of extract to a cup of hot water.

Producer information

The Franck Henrik és Fiai company was founded in 1822. Its coffee shops were well received in the countries of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, including Hungary. In 1911, after Kassa, Budapest and Nagykanizsa, it also opened a chicory processing and coffee substitute factory in Mosonszentjános.

During the reorganization of the Hungarian Confectionery Company in 1971, the factory unit was attached to the Győr Biscuit and Wafer Factory. Its product list expanded significantly: in addition to 12 types of coffee substitutes, 44 other confectionery products were also produced, such as tea flavorings, cream powders, candies, and roasted peanuts. During the privatization following the regime change, in 1991, it became the property of United Biscuits together with the Győr Biscuit and Wafer Factory. After several years of consideration, the English owner decided to sell the factory unit that did not fit into its profile. Thus, the venerable company became Hungarian-Swiss owned in 1994 and operates under the name MULTI-CIKÓRIA Kft.
