The PURINA brand first appeared in 1989 in St. Louis, USA, selling pet food and feed. In 1921, the PURINA Chow brand dry pet food was introduced to the American market. The successful PURINA Dog Chow and PURINA® Cat Chow products were then created. In 1985, Nestlé acquired the successful FRISKIES brand.

In 1998, the DARLING brand also became Nestlé-owned, and a pet food factory was built in Bük with a HUF 6 billion investment, which has been producing dry and wet pet food ever since - the first in Hungary. The Bük factory is currently Nestlé PURINA's largest pet food factory in Europe.
