About the brand
The source of PERIDOT naturally alkaline mineral water is located at the foot of the Etyek Hills in Central Hungary, near a nature reserve. Our ice age aquifer lies beneath an ancient limestone mountain and is covered by alternating, impermeable clay and marl layers. These well-insulating, water-retaining layers protect PERIDOT water from anthropogenic pollution. Based on radiocarbon dating, the well water infiltrated its aquifer approximately 20,000 years ago, during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), when Neanderthals and woolly mammoths still inhabited the European continent.
At this time, a unique and rare event occurred: during this period, a significant part of Europe was covered by a permanent ice sheet, which prevented the infiltration of groundwater. However, the Pannonian Basin was protected from the state of "eternal frost" by the surrounding high mountains, allowing groundwater to infiltrate even during this very cold LGM period.
