Brewing has a long tradition in Sopron. In March 1895, Brno brewery owners and city wholesalers felt the time was right and founded the Sopron factory under the name Első Soproni Serfőzde és Malátagyár (First Sopron Brewery and Malt Factory).

In the city, which has been involved in viticulture for centuries, the city councillors regulated the sale of beer as early as 1523. According to the decree at that time, the Franciscan friars rang the bell at 8 pm to inform the citizens that no beer would be served after the beer bell had rung.
