Teleki Válogatás Villányi Olaszrizling

Olaszrizling is the most widely cultivated grape variety in Hungary, it is extremely versatile, it can be used to make light, easy-to-drink wines for everyday consumption, but it is also suitable for aged, concentrated wines. TELEKI Válogatás Villányi Olaszrizling is rich in floral and fruity flavours typical of the variety, and its aftertaste reveals the typical bitter almond-like flavour. It is an ideal accompaniment to salads with cheese, cream of vegetable soups, and light fish dishes.

Producer information

The winery was founded in 1881 by Zsigmond Teleki, the saviour of Hungarian viticulture, and his legacy still defines the estate's long-term goals and everyday life. The longest cellar system in Villány stretches beneath the modern winery, where 2 million bottles of wine are bottled each year. As the largest winery in the wine region, they have vineyards in every outstanding quality vineyard, their fruit grows in the legendary Kopár vineyard, the Ördögárok, the Csillagvölgy or the Jammertal vineyard. Their winery currently has 370 hectares of vineyards, which will expand to almost 500 hectares by 2020. In addition to the Teleki traditions and the traditions of the wine region, innovation is important to them, so in addition to the values of the past and human knowledge, they also put modern equipment at the service of quality, from the satellite vineyard monitoring system to computer-controlled planting.

Villány's exceptional conditions result in unparalleled red wines, thanks to the Mediterranean climate, the Bordeaux varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot - ripen safely, but Kékfrankos also feels at home here. They harvest in smaller quantities, but they also like Syrah or the lesser-known Petit Verdot. Villány's traditional variety, Portugieser, is made as both red and rosé, while Pinot Noir, with its cool elegance, not only enhances the beauty of their red wines, but also provides the base for bottle-fermented sparkling wine.
