Nivea cream is part of the first beauty care line of the international German concern Beiersdorf AG from Hamburg. It was launched in December 1911. The cream was created by chemist Isaak Lifschütz, dermatologist Paul Unna and pharmacist Oskar Troplowitz, while the company owner was Beiersdorf. They used water, oil, glycerin, citric acid and a new ingredient, eucerin, which made something previously unseen possible. It is capable of creating a long-lasting stable base with water and oil, the end result of which is the cream. The product that was born this way received the name Nivea, which comes from Latin and means snow white.

Over the following years, NIVEA's research led to numerous developments in skin care, which are now taken for granted. Face cream, body lotion, sun cream, alcohol-free aftershave products, pump sprays, face care products for mature skin, anti-wrinkle products containing Q10 coenzyme – all of these were introduced by NIVEA.
