Ivy (Hedera h.)
Common ivy (Hedera helix) is a climbing evergreen plant that is native to most of Europe and southwestern Asia. It is excellent for covering fences, buildings, and trees, and it also works well as a groundcover, since it will cover the ground in the absence of a support to climb. Its foliage consists of lobed leaves that, depending on the variety, can be solid green or variegated. Its umbels consist of small, greenish-yellow flowers that bloom in late summer and early fall. The flowers are rich in nectar, attracting bees and other insects to the garden. Dark blue berries develop after flowering.
Use
Ivy can be planted in any exposure from sun to shade, but it prefers partial shade. In sunny locations, it is important to water regularly, especially during dry spells. Of the soils, it prefers well-drained, nutrient-rich, moist soils, but it also grows well in average garden soils.
The purchased plant must always be repotted in order for it to survive in the apartment in the long term. We recommend repotting it in a larger pot or planter so that it will feel good in the heated apartment and not wilt. It is important not to forget to spray it (with water)!
