It contains vitamin B1, B2, flavonoids, nicotinic acid, iron, iodine, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, selenium and zinc, and it is also very low in energy. In folk medicine it was used to treat catarrhal and respiratory diseases, digestive disorders, and high blood pressure. Today, the extracts of the active ingredients of red onion are primarily recommended for the prevention of arteriosclerosis and to reduce the risk of heart attack. Consumed raw, it has a beneficial effect on cholesterol levels. Research has also proven its antibacterial and immune-boosting effects.
Use
It is primarily used to flavor soups, stews, meat dishes, but independent dishes are also made from it, and it is also added to salads, cold dishes, and pickles in many ways. Rolled in flour and fried in oil, "onion chips" are a delicious snack.
Storage
Store in a dry, cool place, between 5-10°C, it will retain its freshness for several months.
