Product description
Montasio is a traditional Italian cheese that was officially protected in 1955. In 1986, it received the designation of origin, and in June 1996, it received the special OFJ certification from the European Union. The cheese gets its name from the Montasio mountain range in Friuli. It has been produced for centuries on the summer pastures of the mountain range, with the loving care of the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Moggio Udinese.
Today, the main production areas are the provinces of Udine, Pordenone, Gorizia, Trieste, Treviso, Belluno, as well as some areas of Padua and Venice, while still remaining faithful to the traditional 18th century recipe.
