Beer brewing has a long tradition in Sopron. In March 1895, Brno brewery owners and city wholesalers saw the time had come and founded the Sopron factory under the name Első Soproni Serfőzde és Malátagyár (First Sopron Brewery and Malt Factory).

In the city that has been engaged in viticulture for centuries, the city councillors regulated the sale of beer as early as 1523.
