About the Brand
Gémklub started as a board game club in 1986 and grew into a board game publisher. Initially, a few alternative-minded young people made their gatherings meaningful by playing board games. The most dedicated members of the team founded Gém Klub Első Magyar Játékkiadó Kft. in 2001, but real business activity only began in 2006 with the launch of Hungary's first board game webshop and professional website. In Hungary, under the care of Gémklub, board games first appeared with the author's name on the box. At the time of the publisher's founding, the selection included only a few self-developed board games and some foreign games with Hungarian translations.
During its more than 20 years of existence, the Gémklub board game publisher has released 24 self-developed board games from 14 Hungarian game authors, nearly 350 foreign games in Hungarian, and distributed thousands of games with Hungarian translations.
Several games published by Gémklub have won the international Spiel des Jahres – Game of the Year award: 2010: Dixit, 2013: Hanabi, 2015: Colt Express, 2016: Codenames, 2017: Kingdomino, 2018: Azul, 2019. Just One, 2020. Pictures, and in 2022, Cascadia became the Game of the Year.
