Brewing in Sopron has a long tradition. In March 1895, brewery owners from Brno and city wholesalers saw the time was right and founded the Sopron factory under the name Első Soproni Serfőzde és Malátagyár (First Sopron Brewery and Malt Factory).

In the city, which has been involved in viticulture for centuries, the city councilors regulated beer dispensing as early as 1523. According to the decree at that time, the Franciscan friars rang the bell at 8 PM to inform citizens that no beer would be dispensed after the beer bell rang.
