Dietrich Mateschitz founded Red Bull in the mid-1980s, inspired by Far Eastern functional drinks. He created the Red Bull energy drink recipe and developed the unique Red Bull marketing concept. The first Red Bull energy drink was sold in Austria on 1 April 1987.
