Gellavilla Balatonszőlősi Olaszrizling 2023 Balatonfüred-Csopak

One of the greatest classics of the Balaton selection, yet no two vintages have ever been the same. Recently, it has become a trend that the winery's "yellow-capped" estate wine is less and less about the crisply fresh, and much more about the full and ripe flavors of Riesling. Stepping out of the boisterous reductive style, the sip is once again more substantial, the overall picture is rounder. The picture is further colored by the fact that no Oroszy was made in 2022, so the produce of all areas, even the oldest vines, ended up in this wine. After manual harvesting from the organically cultivated vineyard, the bunches were destemmed, then the fresh must fermented in a chilled tank and matured there until bottling in June.

On the seven-hectare Gellavilla estate, Italian Riesling is a fundamental variety, grown on almost 5 hectares, most of which are old vines planted in 1972, supplemented by young plantations.

Producer information

Seven hectares of organically cultivated grapes, spontaneous fermentation in ten barrels and a few tanks, among stone walls built in 1799. This is the old Gellavilla cellar in Balatonszőlős, which Attila Tálos, the founding owner of Bortársaság, noticed in 1997. Bandi Fodor and Dávid Bökő collaborate.

Everything in the 222-year-old cellar has a patina. A large key is used for the door, yet it opens with difficulty, the air is clean and cool, almost palpable, in the great silence only the wine thief tinkles on the wall of the wine glass from time to time. Apart from a classic basket press, 10 barrels and a few tanks, there is nothing else here but the knowledge that many different people have been here over the past 200 years. Those who are captivated by such puritanical and timeless things will get goosebumps in this environment. This is the old stone cellar of Gellavilla, which Attila Tálos, the founding owner of Bortársaság, noticed in 1997.
