Description
The first cultivated pear varieties were experimented by the Greeks about three thousand years ago. In the Roman era, forty different varieties were already grown. In Chinese tradition, it symbolizes sadness and separation, while in the Christian culture, with its white flowers, it symbolizes the Virgin Mary. In Europe, fruit growing was the task of the monks, in the Middle Ages pears were always cooked, because raw pears were considered bad and even poisonous. In the time of the Sun King, Louis XIV, the fruit was already a royal delicacy. Today, we know more than 5000 pear varieties, of which 25 are grown, and about 10 varieties are marketed, including summer, autumn and winter varieties.

The pear contains quite a lot of minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, iodine) and vitamins (A, B1, B2, C, E); due to its composition, it can be a natural remedy for many diseases. It prevents the development of rheumatism, arthritis, anemia, heart and circulatory problems. It can also be consumed by diabetics. Its pectin content helps digestion, it is also ideal for detoxification and purification.
