Bock - Ermitage 2021 14%

The winery's most popular wine. Made from grape varieties from the most beautiful vineyards of the Villány wine region, a blend of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Portugieser, and Syrah. Aged for 12 months in large oak barrels (70%) and used barrique barrels (30%). It is characterized by a medium-dark intensity, garnet-red color, which is paired with a slightly spicy, red fruit aroma. Its taste has a sour cherry tartness with a slight chocolate finish.

About the vintage

Unlike previous years, the winter was very cold and dry. The continuous freezing temperatures in January ensured a reduction in the development of later diseases.

The great cold was followed by a rapid spring and budding. The average daily temperatures at the end of March were higher than usual at this time.

Similar to 2016, the development was explosive. In April, the early warming was followed by several waves of cooling, so the growth became protracted and the phenological phases returned to normal.

At the beginning of May, nearly 50 mm fell in 3 days. Unfortunately, due to the sudden warming, the rain came with hail. Fortunately, it only caused damage to the crop in a smaller part of the wine region. The May heat remained throughout the summer, in August it was almost hot, up to 39°C for days.

The relatively dry and warm weather was not conducive to diseases, so plant protection work was mostly based on prevention, and the number of spraying rounds could also be reduced. Overall, beautiful, ripe bunches could be harvested. Due to the warm summer, the harvest of varieties for sparkling wine base and rosé wine started earlier than usual, in the second decade of August.

The good start of the harvest was interrupted by the unexpected weather in September. Unlike previous years, there was more precipitation and over several days. There was not a week when it did not rain. The temperature also dropped unexpectedly, but thanks to the well-timed protection, the infections did not develop.

Overall, it can be said that this year's harvest was of excellent quality and healthy.

Bock Pince is a family business. The tradition of viticulture and winemaking in the family goes back decades, even centuries. The ancestors moved to Hungary from Germany in the 18th century. The family has been engaged in viticulture and winemaking in the Villány wine region since 1850. The love of wine and the tricks of its making have been passed down from father to son ever since, and this family business has grown out of it. Nowadays, the success is clearly due to an understanding wife and a stable family. József Bock's wife, Valéria, used to work as a teacher, but gave up her profession for the sake of the growing family business. She has been working in the family business with her children ever since.

Storage

Store at 10-15 degrees, in a dark, closed place, consume within 1-2 days after opening.
