Varga Édes Bubis Rosé Wine

A conversation about rosé wine comes to mind for Mr. Varga, which he overheard years ago. His teenage sons, who were already of drinking age, were offering their friends some wine. "Can we bring you some wine?" "No, thank you." "Rosé?" "Yes, please." Youth - folly! But good folly, because the mistake essentially reveals that rosé has introduced a new quality to wines, which is more different from white and red wines than they are from each other. Its appearance is necessarily fragrant, fresh, and lively, yet it is fundamentally different from white and red early wines. We can hardly or not at all speak of varietal character, and although it is quickly bottled after harvesting, the primary grape flavors do not remain in it, and instead, such strawberry and raspberry sensations appear that can only be produced in red wine through longer aging. Rosé is a child of modern times, it has no tradition, but it has a great future ahead of it.

• 1.5l Ház Bora Bottle from HUF 127 to HUF 180

Producer information

Péter Varga started working in the Badacsonyörs winery on January 4, 1993 with his wife and parents. Today he works with his two sons and hopes that they will later continue the winery with his grandchildren. In the past 20 years, Hungarian viticulture has been fundamentally renewed professionally and technologically, and the quality of wines has reached Western European standards. In parallel with this, the demand of consumers has also developed and changed a lot. Today, people drink less and rather taste wines; they look for the interesting and the special. They no longer only drink the wines of nearby wine regions, but are in the mood to get acquainted with the wine selection of the country, Europe, and even the whole world. Therefore, it is not enough to just make beautiful, balanced wines, we need wines that leave a mark on the consumer, that they will remember and will choose again from the thousands of items on offer.
