Producer information
The Budapest Dairy Company began producing the original Soviet sweet (the Soviet Union already had a chocolate-coated, vanilla-flavoured ancestor filled with a cottage cheese-butter-sugar mixture, called "glazirovannij szirok") in 1968, after the idea was brought to Hungary during a study trip between COMECON countries. It was first produced in the Szabolcstej dairy plant in Mátészalka, then production also began in the Zalkatej dairy plant in Nagybánhegyes. Following the regime change, the manufacturing companies were privatised, as a result of which the production of Túró Rudi came under the ownership of Friesland-Campina.
The Pöttyös brand still enjoys incredible success today, as every age group can find their favourite flavour. Pöttyös products mean more to us Hungarians than just a delicacy. They are always with us and always bring a smile to our face, cheering us up!
