Producer Information
The Budapesti Tejipari Vállalat (Budapest Dairy Company) started manufacturing it in 1968. The idea for this originally Soviet sweet (a chocolate-coated, vanilla-flavoured ancestor filled with a mixture of cottage cheese, butter, and sugar already existed in the Soviet Union under the name "glazirovannij szirok") came to Hungary during a study tour among CMEA countries. It was first produced at Szabolcstej's dairy plant in Mátészalka, and later production also began at Zalkatej's dairy plant in Nagybánhegyes. Following the regime change, the manufacturing companies were privatized, through which the production of Túró Rudi came under the ownership of Friesland-Campina.
Even today, the Pöttyös brand enjoys incredible success, as every age group can find their favourite flavour. For us Hungarians, Pöttyös products mean more than just a delicacy. They are always with us and bring smiles to our faces and cheer us up every moment!
