About the brand

In 1929, Nestlé was given the task of helping to preserve the huge amount of coffee that had accumulated in Brazil after the Wall Street crash. Nestlé accepted the challenge.

Our coffee expert, Max Morgenthaler, was on a mission to create a delicious cup of coffee simply by adding water. Max and his team worked hard to find a new way to make instant coffee that would retain the natural flavour of coffee. In 1938, they found the solution, and NESCAFÉ was born. The name NESCAFÉ was created by combining the first three letters of Nestlé and the word "café", a new name in the world of coffee at that time.
