Orange Star-of-Bethlehem – Ornithogalum dubium
This bulbous perennial originates from South Africa and produces its vibrant, mostly orange, less commonly lemon-yellow or white flowers in dense, tent-like clusters from late winter to mid-spring. Its radially symmetrical flowers, composed of tepals, are mildly fragrant and long-lasting as cut flowers. Its 20-40 cm tall stem is surrounded by shiny, leathery basal leaves resembling those of a tulip, which gradually dry out after flowering and only re-emerge during winter. Due to its frost sensitivity and early flowering, it is mostly kept as a potted plant in our country.

It is a plant with high light requirements, needing well-draining, neutral soil.
Water requirements
Its water requirement is moderate; water it 2-3 times a week during the growing period, but it does not require water during the summer dormancy. When watering, make sure to pour out any water collected at the bottom of the pot, as otherwise it is prone to root rot. After the foliage dries out, keep the plant in a dark, cool place until mid-autumn.
