Grand Tokaj Kővágó Furmint dry

The refreshing character of the wine blends beautifully with the flavours of the Furmint grape, complemented by the minerality of the Kővágó vineyard in Mád. Thanks to the fermentation and ageing in new barrels, its flavour has a beautiful smokiness, the body and character of the Furmint grape appearing paired with vibrant grapefruit fruitiness. A full-bodied wine with a long finish, with a mineral, salty character returning at the end.

Producer information

Grand Tokaj is one of the most significant domestic wineries owned by the Tokaj-Hegyalja University Foundation, which - as the largest winery in the historic Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site - is the guardian and developer of the national winemaking tradition.

Their main activities at their Tolcsva wine centre and their own vineyards are primarily grape production and purchasing, as well as winemaking and sales. The winery, which has 67 hectares of vineyards, is also a prominent player in their wine region: around 35% of the region's total wine production is made up of the wines produced here.

As an integrator in the region, they currently purchase strictly controlled quality grapes from around 670 hectares of productive land in cooperation with winegrowers who have been working with them for years.

Their winery's wines, which represent a renewed spirit, are made under the direction of Károly Áts, a winemaker who won the Winemaker of the Year award in 2012 and the Winemaker of Winemakers award in 2020, and who has been the company's chief winemaker since 2013.
