Fight against mosquitoes
In summer, besides sunburn, heat rash, and various abrasions, one of the most common skin problems is mosquito bites. Mosquitoes can cause a lot of discomfort not only by the water but also in our homes with their buzzing and bites. Along with their saliva, they introduce proteins, digestive enzymes, and anticoagulants into our bodies, which respond with an allergic reaction, resulting in itchy, swollen, red spots. Fortunately, the mosquito species living in our country mostly do not spread serious diseases compared to their tropical counterparts.
What to do about itchy mosquito bites?
The red, itchy, sometimes swollen spots can be treated with creams containing plant-based active ingredients (calendula, aloe vera, lavender essential oil) or over-the-counter antihistamines externally. In more severe cases, treatment with oral antihistamines may also be necessary, some of which are also available without a prescription.
A similar allergic reaction occurs in the body with other insect bites (spider, bedbug, ant, bee), so these bites can be treated in a similar way to mosquito bites.
Did you know? Not all mosquitoes prefer human blood. Some choose plant juices instead.

How to keep mosquitoes away?
The most popular options are probably insect repellent products that can be used externally on the skin or clothing. Many products are available on the market with synthetic (DEET, picaridin, ethyl butyl acetyl aminopropionate - IR3535) or natural (para-menthane-3,8-diol, citriodiol, citrepel) active ingredients.
Natural insect repellents are produced by chemically treating essential oils (most commonly eucalyptus citriodora, Javan citronella), they can be safely used in early childhood and do not harm wildlife.
If you do not want to use such products, you can protect yourself from mosquitoes with long-sleeved clothing, long pants, and mosquito nets.
Popular solutions also include the use of evaporative liquids, oils, glowing-burning sticks, and spirals in the room.
Products containing citriodiol and IR3535 active ingredients can be safely used during childhood and pregnancy. It is worth paying attention to the packaging to see how many hours of protection the product provides and to reapply it at the recommended intervals.
