Packaging waste is a global problem. Coca-Cola is aware that it is part of the problem, and therefore wants to be part of the solution. This is why it commits in its World Without Waste strategy to continuously reduce the amount of new plastic used in production worldwide, and within ten years, all its PET bottles will be made from half recycled materials. In addition, by 2030, they will collect as many bottles and soda cans as they sell worldwide, and all (primary) packaging materials will be 100% recyclable. The PET bottles distributed by Coca-Cola Hungary are already 100% recyclable.
The paper bottle prototype developed in collaboration between scientists at Coca-Cola's Brussels research and development laboratory and the Danish Paper Bottle Company (Paboco) is now entering the consumer testing phase. This is an important part of the development process for the company to see how it actually performs as packaging, how consumers perceive it, and what they feel about it.
