Like every great success story, this one also began with a special and unique personality from the early days of the company. Josef Manner, a trained merchant, opened his first shop in 1890 a stone's throw from Vienna's Stephansdom, where he mainly sold chocolate bars and fig coffee. From the very beginning, Josef Manner pursued the strategy of selling better quality chocolate products than the competition at a lower price: "Every child who gives me a penny for my products should not only get a sweet, but also valuable food" - he liked to say.
