Producer information

The archives of Nuits-Saint-Georges testify that the Moillard family owned vineyards even before the French Revolution. In 1848, Symphorien Moillard married Marguerite Grivot, whose family owned vineyards. As the nascent business developed, the first train of the new line serving Paris, Lyon, and Marseille ("P.L.M.") brought a Belgian notary to Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1850. He became Symphorien Moillard's first international client. After tasting the company's wines, the notary was so captivated that he persuaded Symphorien to send him a selection of Bourgogne wine to Belgium. This marked the beginning of Moillard's wine merchant business and its first export. This new business required serious expertise in predicting the aging potential of wines over three, five, or ten years. Since then, Moillard has continued this meticulous work of winemaking and aging to allow the wines to reach their full potential.
