Burg Vinegar Spirit Vinegar 10%
The Hungarian name comes from the Latin word for vinegar, acetum, which means sour. The word vinegar used in the English language comes from the Old French expression "vin aigre", which means "sour wine".
Sour wine is actually vinegar or vinegar preparation. The basic concepts are defined by the Hungarian Food Codex as follows: "Vinegar preparations are products containing acetic acid, which are intended for flavouring and preserving food. Vinegar is a product that is produced by double fermentation (alcoholic-acetic) of raw materials of agricultural origin."
Acetic acid is an organic compound, its formula is CH3COOH. Acetic acid gives vinegar its sour taste and characteristic smell. Food grade acetic acid is produced from dry distillation products of wood or synthetically, which - and this must be emphasized - cannot be consumed directly. Acetic acid is labelled as E 260 as a food additive.
