About the brand

Their story began in Brighton, England, in 1976. It all started with the founder, who believed in something revolutionary – that business could be a tool for "good". Following her vision, they have been groundbreaking, honest, and change-makers for over 40 years. Back then, the business was just a tiny, green-painted boutique fragrant on a street in Brighton. It was completely different, inside and out, from other big companies in the cosmetics industry. Yet, it was utterly simple – ethically sourced, natural-based ingredients from all over the world. The products and beauty rituals were made for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or background, so that every customer could feel good in their own skin, never promising that they could be someone else through them. When The Body Shop started, beauty was a rather narrowly defined idea of how a girl or woman should look. But The Body Shop also had its own opinion on this. Beauty products were primarily a self-loving moment in daily rituals, rather than tempting with the false promise of slimming or wrinkle reduction.
