Producer Information

The history of Ritter Sport began in 1912 when Clara Göttle and Alfred Eugen Ritter founded the Swabian family confectionery business in Germany, in the city of Bad Cannstatt.
Their first joint chocolate brand was Al rika, which became so popular that by 1930, another factory was needed.
Clara Göttle and Alfred Eugen Ritter opened their next plant 20 km further, in the city of Waldenbuch. 
The real milestone came in 1932 when, based on Clara's idea, the unique 4x4 square chocolate bar, named Ritter Sport, was launched. 
Their success has been unbroken ever since, and the company, which is still family-owned, has now gone international. 
Currently, the third generation, Alfred T. Ritter and his sister, Marli Hoppe Ritter, export the colourful little squares to more than 80 countries.
