Brewing in Sopron has a long tradition. In March 1895, Brno brewery owners and city wholesalers saw the moment had come and founded the Sopron factory under the name of Első Soproni Serfőzde és Malátagyár (First Sopron Brewery and Malt Factory).

In the city that has been engaged in viticulture for centuries, the city council regulated the sale of beer as early as 1523. According to the then regulation, the Franciscan friars rang the bell at 8 pm to inform the citizens that after the ringing of the beer bell, there would be no more beer sales.
