Brewing in Sopron has a long tradition. In March 1895, brewery owners from Brno and city wholesalers saw the time was right and founded the Sopron factory under the name Első Soproni Serfőzde és Malátagyár (First Sopron Brewery and Malt Factory).

In the city, which has been involved in viticulture for centuries, the city council already regulated beer dispensing in 1523. According to the decree at that time, Franciscan friars rang the bell at 8 PM to inform citizens that no beer would be served after the 'beer bell' had rung.
