La Grande Épicerie Corsican Almond Canistrelli
Corsican biscuit made in the small town of Appietto in the Cinarca region using wheat flour and sugar. Canistrelli are an integral part of Corsican culture and are ideal for breakfast or as a snack. The dough is prepared in a kneading machine, then comes the first baking. After the first baking, the dough is sliced and a second baking gives Canistrelli their characteristic crunchy texture.
Producer information
It was only 100 years ago, in 1923, that the new building of the future Grande Epicerie de Paris was inaugurated. Initially, the grocery counter offered teas, cocoa powder and chocolate, then gradually opened up to fresh produce from 1933. A real revolution at the time, it was the first time that a grocery counter had been integrated into a department store. From the outset, thematic exhibitions were presented to highlight foreign gastronomy, particularly Italian and British.
