Nivea cream is part of the first beauty care line of the international German concern Beiersdorf AG from Hamburg. It was introduced in December 1911. The cream was created by chemist Isaak Lifschütz, dermatologist Paul Unna and pharmacist Oskar Troplowitz, and the company owner was Beiersdorf. They used water, oil, glycerin, citric acid and a new ingredient, eucerin, which made something unseen possible. It is capable of creating a long-lasting stable base with water and oil, the end result of which is the cream. The resulting product was given the name Nivea, which comes from Latin and means snow white.

Over the following years, NIVEA's research has led to numerous developments in skin care that we now take for granted. Face cream, body lotion, sunscreen, alcohol-free after-shave preparations, pump sprays, face care products for mature skin, anti-wrinkle products containing Q10 coenzyme – all of these were introduced by NIVEA.
