The creators of the cream were chemist Isaak Lifschütz, dermatologist Paul Unna and pharmacist Oskar Troplowitz, and the owner of the company was Beiersdorf. They used water, oil, glycerin, citric acid and a new ingredient, eucerin, which made something unprecedented possible. It is capable of helping water and oil to form a long-lasting stable base, the end result of which is the cream. The product thus created was given the name Nivea, which comes from Latin and means snow white.

Over the following years, NIVEA's research has led to numerous developments in the field of skin care, which are now taken for granted.
