One of the most popular early spring flowering plants is the primula (primrose). It is one of the earliest flowering plants after winter, available in many wonderful colours.

These low-growing, herbaceous plants are found from the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, through the tropical areas of Ethiopia, Indonesia, and New Guinea, to certain parts of South America.

Care

The ideal place for primula is a semi-shaded or shaded spot, although it can also thrive in a sunny location if it is kept sufficiently moist and cool. In the latter case, you can place it near a window, on a windowsill, far from any heating elements. Protect it from direct, scorching sunlight, as it can easily shed its leaves. This plant has a very high water requirement. 

It is best to keep its soil constantly moist and prevent it from drying out. This does not mean overwatering it to the point where it stands in water, as its roots can easily rot.
