The Swiss cheese plant (Monstera) is a popular and well-known houseplant.
The plant needs a lot of space to grow. Even when kept indoors, the Swiss cheese plant can reach a height of 1-2 meters, and its leaves can have a diameter of 30-70 cm. The leaves of young plants are heart-shaped and smooth-edged, but as the plant ages, holes and deep incisions appear on the leaves. Mature leaves are shiny, leathery, and dark green.

When kept indoors, the Swiss cheese plant rarely flowers. In its natural habitat, yellowish-greenish white flowers, which are actually spadix inflorescences protected by a spathe, appear in summer. Its fruit is green, resembles a corn cob, and ripens very slowly, over two years.
The purchased plant must always be repotted to ensure its long-term survival indoors. We recommend repotting them into a larger pot or container so they feel comfortable in a heated home and do not wilt. It is important not to forget to mist (with water) them!
Interesting facts
In its natural habitat, it can be found almost everywhere in the tropical regions of South and Central America, from Mexico to Panama. This tall-growing, heat-loving, climbing plant utilizes its long aerial roots in the jungle, which help it climb up and cling to tree trunks in search of light, but they are also capable of absorbing nutrients and water.
Care
It is a rather nutrient-demanding plant that thrives in loose, moist soil. It grows well at average temperatures and in semi-shady locations, but it cannot tolerate direct sunlight. It needs to be watered regularly but moderately. Its aerial roots can be safely trimmed occasionally. If it grows very tall, it is advisable to provide it with support. It is quite resistant to pests.
Storage
Store between 15-20 °C, in a non-dry room.
