Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) 13cm

The Christmas cactus, true to its name, blooms in winter, around Christmas. Buds appear on the ends of its hanging, leaf-like stems in November, from which white, pink, red, or purple flowers then develop.

The purchased plant must always be repotted to ensure its long-term survival in the home. We recommend repotting them into a larger pot or container so that they feel comfortable in a heated apartment and do not wilt. It is important not to forget to mist them (with water)!

Interesting facts

This type of cactus originates from the tropical regions of Brazil and, apart from its relative drought tolerance, does not much resemble its round, spiny relatives found in the desert areas of the Earth.

Care instructions

For most of the year, it requires a place with diffused light, free from direct scorching sun, but during the winter period of low light, it can safely be exposed to direct sunlight. Plant it in acidic, well-draining, airy soil, and if possible, use rainwater for irrigation.

It is relatively drought-tolerant, but it's good to keep its soil continuously slightly moist. However, during the resting period after flowering, it requires less water; wait until the soil dries out slightly between two waterings. It is a frost-sensitive plant, so do not expose it to temperatures below 10°C for extended periods during winter. During summer, it can be grown outdoors in a semi-shady location, and during winter, it should preferably be kept in a bright, cool room. In its natural environment, the air humidity is high, so it appreciates occasional misting with water.

Store between 16-20°C.
