Thummerer Egri Bikavér Classicus

Bikavér is a cuvée made from a blend of two or three wines. The word "cuvée" is of French origin, in Hungarian it is written as "küvé", meaning blending. In Hungary, this wine is typical of the Eger and Szekszárd regions. The history of Egri Bikavér dates back 130-150 years. Ruby colour, fruity and slightly spicy aroma reminiscent of redcurrant, together with the smell of ageing in oak barrels. Rich, complex, spicy flavour, smooth tannins. Protected origin classicus dry red wine.

Serving suggestion

• With pork, lamb and game dishes, cabbage dishes, e.g. stuffed cabbage.
• Ideal serving temperature 16-18°C.

Producer information

The Thummerer family business has been engaged in viticulture and winemaking since 1984. Our wines, sparkling wines and pálinkas are made from the produce of our 100 hectares of our own vineyards in the Eger Wine Region.
The centre of the winery is located in Noszvaj, 12 km from Eger.
The 2000 m2 former manor house cellar was hand-carved into the volcanic tuff rock more than 100 years ago, which was expanded in 2004 with a new 2200 m2 tuff cellar system.

The winery's awards:

• The founder of the winery, Vilmos Thummerer. Member of the Hungarian Wine Academy and the Pannon Wine Guild, which brings together Hungary's leading winemakers.
• In 1995 he was awarded the title of "WINE PRODUCER OF THE YEAR".
• The winery won the "WINERY OF THE YEAR 2011" award.
• Thummerer Winery "HUNGARY'S MOST SUCCESSFUL WINERY" in 2013 and 2017.
• The winery won the "MOST SUCCESSFUL FAMILY WINERY" award in 1994 and 1996.
• Later major awards: Eger Grape Grower of the Year, Eger Wine Producer of the Year. Our wines have won valuable awards at both domestic and international wine competitions.
