Beer brewing has a long tradition in Sopron. In March 1895, Brno brewery owners and city wholesalers saw the time had come and founded the Sopron factory under the name Első Soproni Serfőzde és Malátagyár (First Sopron Brewery and Malt Factory).

In the city that has been engaged in viticulture for centuries, the city councillors regulated the sale of beer as early as 1523. According to the decree at that time, the Franciscan friars rang the bell at 8 pm to inform the citizens that there would be no more beer sales after the beer bell had rung.
