The history of Canada Dry Ginger Ale began in 1904 as Pale Ginger Ale. Its founder, John J. McLaughlin, had a carbonated water plant in Canada, so when he saw that the popularity of syrupy ginger ales was starting to grow, he decided to make a lighter version. This became the Canada Dry Ginger Ale we know today. During the Prohibition, Canada Dry Ginger Ale became a popular mixer, masking the taste of the era's popular bathtub concoctions. Often referred to as a soda pop, it has been marketed to the masses for decades.
